Fraxel Laser Treatments

Fraxel is a non-invasive laser treatment that takes years off your face and gives you younger and radiant skin. This revolutionary treatment dramatically reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, or any other signs of aging on your face.

At the Westchester Center for Dermatology, we provide Fraxel laser treatment from our dermatology office in Scarsdale.

How Does Fraxel Laser Treatment Work?

The Fraxel laser treats a fraction of your skin’s tissue at a time to give your skin the best results. By treating each part separately instead of all at once, the thousands of microscopic laser columns can penetrate deep into the layers of skin to rebuild it from the inside out. These laser columns stimulate your body’s natural healing process to replace the damaged skin with youthful, smoother, healthier skin.

What Will These Lasers Do to My Skin?

Your skin is made up of different layers and substances: the epidermis, dermis, collagen, and elastin. Collagen and elastin are proteins that keep your skin youthful, firm, and tight.

As you age, your body starts to produce less collagen and elastin which can cause the skin to sag and increase the amount of wrinkles and lines. The microscopic laser columns penetrate deep into your dermis to create tiny wounds which then trigger your body’s natural repair system to heal them. This process speeds up the production of new collagen and elastin, rejuvenating your face with tighter and younger skin.

By only affecting a fraction of your skin at a time, your skin can heal much faster than if all of your skin was treated at once.

What Should I Expect During and After the Treatment?

After your consultation your doctor will determine which type of Fraxel laser treatment is best for your skin. The treatment will be done right in our Scarsdale dermatology office.

When you arrive, the area of your skin to be treated will be cleansed thoroughly. A topical anesthetic ointment is then applied to the surface of your skin. It will take about 60 to 90 minutes for the anesthetic to begin working, and then your treatment will start.

The laser treatment will only take about 20 to 25 minutes for the entire face. The anesthetic will then be removed. Your healing process will begin with some redness, swelling, or a sunburn sensation. This lets you know your skin is healing from the inside out. Depending on your type of treatment, you can return to your regular routine in as little as a couple hours or up to a few days.
