Laser Treatment for Wrinkles, Scarring and Damaged Skin
Published on September 21, 2011 by Westchester Center For Dermatology
No one likes to deal with skin complications, especially those which might exhibit signs of aging. Wrinkles around the eyes, scarring, acne scars and even sun-damaged-skin can be serious problems once they begin to accumulate over the years. Unfortunately, it is something that most of us have to go through at some point in our lives. The good news is that Manhattan Dermatology & Laser Center has a new treatment for these blemishes. With the introduction of the Fractionated Resurfacing Laser, these problems are quickly becoming a thing of the past.
The power of our fractionated resurfacing laser in NYC
Manhattan Dermatology & Laser Center’s CO2 Fractional Laser treatments are performed in-office by a board-certified dermatologist and typically only require topical anesthesia. It is an easily tolerated experience which feels like a slight prickling sensation. It is important to wash the area to be treated thoroughly before the required layer of topical numbing agent is applied. Once numbing takes effect, an FDA certified water-soluble tint is applied in order to highlight the contours of the affected skin. This tint is of course washed away after treatment.
What to expect during your laser treatment in Manhattan
During the laser treatment, a board-certified dermatologist from Manhattan Dermatology & Laser Center will slowly glide a laser across the treated area. A cooling device will also be blowing cool air across the skin. The laser will deliver energy in small dots, giving off a heated prickly feeling. The whole process takes just 30 minutes to complete. After the treatment, it is normal to experience a slight sunburn sensation for an hour or two and then there should be no discomfort whatsoever. The treated skin will be pink in color for about a week, which is part of the normal healing process. Many people who are treated go back to work the very next day. It is also completely safe to apply makeup after approximately 24 hours has passed.

It only takes 24 hours for new epidermal skin to begin developing. The skin repair process may involve slight bronzing or flaking. This will last anywhere from 3 – 14 days depending on level of treatment. Flaking will be similar to minor sunburn, but without pain. This can be masked by using a moisturizing agent. It is also important to apply SPF 30 sun block during the healing process. Over the next few weeks and months, the body will begin repairing more deeply, providing a youthful appearance free of blemishes.
